The market takes place on the second Sunday in September, as part of the Dante festivities. It started the night before with an hour or so of entertainment - music, jugglers and fireworks. The stalls were set out in the Piazza San Francesco. Most stall-holders were in costume and demonstrated their crafts.
I took most pictures of the stalls while they were still setting up, while the square was still quiet, and took some at odd angles to avoid getting too many out-of-period costumes into the pictures.
I was hoping to be able to buy some Indulgences while I was there, but there was no sign of anyone selling indulgences or pardons, nor were there any relics available for purchase. Only programmes for the day were on sale, and cost 1 soldo each. These coins were minted at one of the stalls and could be obtained in exchange for a euro or two.
